Kerry McKerracher, Appliance Repair Service
As a proud naturalized US Citizen, by way of Canada to California and then to the Coeur d'Alene area, I have over 23 years experience in Appliance Repair.
The home appliance industry is amazing. Over 40 years went by without any significant changes in basic home appliances and then... along came technology and government regulation.
Each machine used to have a few basic components that may require repair from time to time. Now, each machine may have dozens of elements that can potentially go wrong. While that's a good thing for Appliance Repair folks, it poses a problem for the general consumer.
Here are some tips that may make your appliances run more efficiently and last longer.
- Refrigerators
- Clean the coils regularly.
- Be sure you have good clearance around the unit.
- Ovens
- Know how your particularly oven works. Understand that some recipes call for you to "pre-heat" your oven and the pre-heat cycle may not be appropriate for some sensitive foods (souffles).
- Washer
- Don't mix "fabric densities". For example, don't wash bedding with shirts. This can cause issues with the spin cycles and cause wear on your machine.
- Dryer
- Be sure the vent is not pinched off and is clear of lint build-up.
- If you have a lint trap or filter, keep it clean.
- Dish Washer
- Pre-wipe your dishes. Garbage can clog pumps and hoses.
- Mineral deposits can cause poor cleaning. On a monthly basis, consider running a cycle (no dishes) with a Calcium, Lime and Rust remover product like CLR to remove and prevent these deposits.
