Wednesday, August 17, 2011 - PowerTipps Board and Past President discussioins at the Breakfast Nook.

Present: Ralph, Tim, Bill, Ed, Gussie, Katie, Karen, JR, Butch and Dean.

PowerTipps Agenda Items discussed:

Major discussion picked up from last year’s Past President By-laws meeting.  Revisit whether we are restrictive or not in membership.  Bill will put pen to paper on the one statement under consideration under Membership Qualifications.  Loyalty, leads, commitment, value to the membership were all discussed.  At the time of this writing, Ralph, Butch and Ed have weighed in on their emails.  Waiting for the rest of the meeting participants to answer back.

Spring Membership Drive money split:  2 First Places with Julie and Butch splitting $100 each. Then rewarding 6 people who brought in 1 new member each  $25.00: Teri, Len, Tim, Renee, JR and Bill.  Ralph will write checks for Friday meeting.

Discussion about having another drive for Sept.- mid Dec. as it takes potential new member to show for 3 times before joining and being voted upon.  Will revisit to kick off.

Member Retention was addressed as well as a creation of a New Member Packet and follow up from the Board to new attendees as Sponsors sometimes don’t follow up other than the invite.  Ed attended a BNI meeting out of curiosity and reported about their procedures.  Possible to appoint a seasoned member as a mentor to the new members. Set up with Clifford Send Out Cards program to align with packets. Katie will create flyer and packet contents.

Discussion on inviting a guest speaker every 6 weeks to help addressing some of the needs of business that people said they needed assistance on the 3x5 cards.  We would skip commercials, just an introduction of name and business for speaker.

Discussion on having a Christmas Party, Butch suggested we rent the Shriner’s building on Lancaster as they have a bar and either potluck or cater in.  Attendance has fallen in the last 3 years, so it’s time to change up the venue.  Katie will call them for a date hold.

Discussion was held regarding a possible scholarship program for our members, but was tabled as that is not our purpose.

Our Speaker’s list needs to be re-aligned and new members sought out and signed up to speak. Integration of a informational guest speaker every 6 weeks, we have enough business’s that should be signed up for 1 member speaker once every 4 months anything more and the information is watered down by hearing from the same people, the same information. Board and seasoned members will work on “commercials” to assist membership with cleaning up membership speaker information, 30 sec. and 1 minute tag commercials.  If there is a week that can’t be filled then perhaps after introductions we have round table discussions or small group Brainstorming sessions.  Members are there to assist in presenting a shy members information or interview style. Knowing that we are a friendly audience that we would prefer to have spontaneous speaking on their topic with a note card with key points vs. reading information verbatim off of a flyer.  Our group is a great training ground to grow through public speaking and other talking points as we are small business that have to represent ourselves to grow.

Ed was asked to start commercials about giving Leads and the importance of Leads. We will start counting leads and competing sides as we have done in the past.  Tim will track leads count weekly.  We can give recognition on FB and on the weekly minutes update.

Suggested that we have a timer to keep the 1 min. business commercials on time as people lose track of their commercial.  So Katie and Tim will monitor or possibly appoint time monitors.

Scott Peterson from Aflac is now working from home and will not be sponsoring the September Power Hour.  Bob Singletary volunteered his historical tour services for free but we would have to decide on where and pay for charter or charge per member bus fees.  Katie will call Bob for possible dates, whether we want to do a weeknight or a weekend date is still to be determined.

Karen will compile the absent member list for people MIA so that our past President Butch can make inquiry calls as we care about them and Katie said that she spoke to most of the folks last week calling for Edward Jones and BBQ information.

Respectfully submitted by Karen Parke and Katie Mans
